"It is not the experience of TODAY that drives men mad—it is remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY,
and the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.
Let, us, therefore, live but one day at a time."
–12-step meditation
"I believe that people are good if you give them half a chance and that good is more powerful than evil. The world seems to me excruciatingly, almost painfully beautiful at times, and the goodness and kindness of people often exceed that which even I expect."
–Lois Burnham Wilson
"I do not ask to walk smooth paths nor bear an easy load. I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock strewn road. Give me such courage and I can scale the hardest peaks alone, and transform every stumbling block into a stepping stone."
- Gale Brook Burket

"You don’t create your mission in life. You detect it."

The "ADR Recovery Center" is now doing business as "A Daily Reprieve Center, Inc." a registered non-profit, seeking 501(c)(3) status.more in the COMMENTS section below
BASICS About the Club
  • ADR Recovery Center started as a regular business owned and operated by a couple who are in sustained recovery, Russ and Elaine. The location is leased, we paid (and still pay at this time) taxes, we have not received grants or public assistance. Snack shop & merchandise profits as well as room rents, cover expenses to keep the doors open so that people in recovery may attend meetings and socialize with others in a 'club' atmosphere. ADR opened in February 2008.
  • There is now ONE, bigger front meeting room. A SMALL room is set aside for ADR Members to use for study or for 1-to-1 work; 4 people would be the limit. This room use can overlap a regular meeting going on in the big room.
  • The room in the back (previously the gift shop) is now the office and board room.

"This dream world has been replaced by a great sense of purpose, accompanied by a growing consciousness of the power of God in our lives. We have come to believe He would like us to keep our heads in the clouds with him, but that our feet ought to be firmly planted on earth. That is where our fellow travelers are, and that is where our work must be done. These are the realities for us. We have found nothing incompatible between a powerful spiritual experience and a life of sane and happy usefulness." — p. 130 of the AA text.

SNACK BAR
Lots of coffees! Specialty coffee drinks, cocoa and teas.
The snack bar has a variety of hot and cold beverages, snack foods, candy, chips, popcorn, and pre-packed microwavable food. It is open while the facility is open.
Meeting coffee will need to be purchased at the counter ($3/airpot).
PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN OUTSIDE FOOD. If the Club cannot make sales, it will not be able to stay open! Even as a non-profit, rent and bills MUST BE PAID.
ADR has Credit/Debit card service available for VISA and MasterCard.
CODE of BEHAVIOR
Safety for newcomers, children, and other vulnerable people is a priority here. Active predators, of any kind, are not welcome. ADR does not want to be a club where 'anything goes.'
  1. Respect the privacy, anonymity, and dignity of others.
  2. Children under fourteen years of age must be under direct supervision of their parent or guardian.
  3. Absolutely no alcohol, illegal drugs, or paraphernalia.
  4. No panhandling of other visitors.
  5. Threatening and violent behavior will not be tolerated.
  6. No illegal weapons of any kind allowed on the premises.
  7. No overnight parking allowed.
  8. PLEASE–– Don't bring in outside food or drink (Treats for birthday meetings okay). But why not support YOUR CLUB?
  9. SMOKING in the back yard. A tent and chairs are provided.
Club VOLUNTEERS
The ADR Center Board of Directors prefers counter volunteers who have AT LEAST 3 months of consecutive clean/sober time AND have worked Steps 1 through 9 with a Guide or Sponsor. The goal is not to "keep newcomers busy" by giving them a key and responsibility behind the counter and access to everything. Our goal is to have volunteers who can, and are willing, to share THE 12-step spiritual (no specific religion) program of recovery. "You cannot transmit something you haven't got." If you are new and interested in service work, there are meetings that need secretaries and projects around the club.
The Club needs a Fundraising Events Coordinator
We need a club member who can oversee, plan, and coordinate fundraising events. Can you whole-heartedly support and communicate the club's mission, purpose, and what we stand for? Talk to a board member if you might be able to do this––approval by the board is required. The BOD prefers that you have at least 6 months of continuous sobriety and have worked through the steps with a Guide/Sponsor.

UPDATES & COMMENTS
January 31, 2010 -- There are some supportive people in the area, and a few folks supportive of the full-spiritual approach to recovery. Thanks to them, we might make it!
December 4 -- The Solutions MC Blanket Drive on November 30 was busy. They have an annual RUN collecting blanket, coats, etc. for two charities that help homeless. ADR served lunch, and it was a fundraiser for the club also.
November 10 -- SPECIAL THANKS to Jim & Deborah M. and Tom C. for taking care of the club, counter, and visitors while Russ and I were in Hawaii for the 48th AA convention. Thanks also to volunteers, Billy D., Anita B., Racquel H. for making sure the doors were open for afternoon and evening meetings.
October 3 -- ADR Center, Inc. is now doing business. Our business bulletin board has all our postings.
Need some more support to keep this going for our community.

Sept. 7 -- The official switch from "A Daily Reprieve Recovery Center" to the non-profit "A Daily Reprieve Center, Inc." will be October 1, 2009.
August 24 -- We have our EIN number; the FULL Articles have been submitted. A draft of Initial By-laws has been drawn up; a sample two-year budget is in progress. We will have our first board meeting within a couple weeks; required documents will be submitted to the IRS for Tax-exempt status. But meanwhile, the ADR Center may act as a tax-exempt organization... and may give qualified receipts for donations.
July 22 -- The last needed Director signature for the full Articles of Incorporation can be obtained on Aug. 1. We should be getting our EIN number soon. When we get back from our trip to California (to attend the Memorial Service for my brother Stan), the BOD will have their first meeting to vote on the ADR By-laws and estimated budget. With these documents, I can proceed with requesting IRS tax-exempt status.
July 16 –– THANKS: There have been some people who have been regular supporters of ADR and what we all, together, are trying to accomplish here: to help carry the message of whole-life recovery offered by The 12-step Program. Not only do these people work with newcomers, attend & support meetings, they have also supported keeping the doors open. The community is noticing, because of YOU. Thank you all.
July 10 –– We'd heard that a few people with "time" had chosen NOT to attend 12-step meetings held at the center because they don't want to support a "for-profit" business. Reminder: 12-step meetings are autonomous from their location. ..and isn't it all supposed to be about spreading the message of recovery and reaching out to the newcomer??
Why would someone intentionally NOT purchase a delicious $3.50 sandwich (but yet will bring in a beverage purchased from the store next door)? Heaven forbid we make a 25 cent "profit" that is needed toward paying the electric bill. We have not made a profit yet compared to what we've invested. ...our time and hard work doesn't get us a salary – money goes back into the Center – we live on Russ' retirement checks.
